Help and support for the transgender community

Male to Female (MTF)

MTF Is the generally recognised term for “Male to Female” transgender people who experience a sense of gender dysphoria from living in a body which is incongruent with their preferred gender.

Male to Female (MTF)

MTF people are assigned male at birth, but wish to present as female on either a temporary or permanent basis, depending upon the degree of their dysphoria.

Typically, this group of the gender spectrum tend to be more visible in society, where they are often referred to as trans-women, transgender women or transwomen. Here in the Beaumont Society, we advocate that the label transgender shouldn’t be confused with that of transsexual. Although this definition is by no means universally accepted, we support parliament’s use of the term transgender, considering it as an umbrella term that includes all types of gender variant people (See 2015 Commons Select Committee report).

New Trans+ Helpline

The south west region of the Charity Mind is opening a confidential helpline to support those who identify as Trans, their families and friends. From Friday 10th February 2017 the service will be available on Mondays and Fridays 8pm – Midnight. The call-handlers (many of whom are trans) have been extensively trained and will ensure it is a safe place to talk. If you, or someone you know, is in distress it can make a real difference to talk to someone about how you feel. You will be able to talk anonymously in complete confidence. If you need someone to talk to call the Trans + Mindline: 0300 330 5468
